How an immersive experience bridged the gap between community concerns and the redevelopment of Cundy Street Quarter.
THE BACKSTORY
As a design partner to Grosvenor Britain & Ireland we helped to bring to life current plans for the rejuvenation of the Cundy Street Quarter in a shop front takeover in the heart of Pimlico. The public consultation formed a key part of their community engagement programme.
THE PROBLEM
Public acceptance of the Cundy Street Quarter redevelopment plans proved challenging. While there was prior community engagement, it was clear there was a need for improved clarity and communication about the project. Residents and businesses within the local community had questions and concerns, and the project's benefits for the community were not fully understood.
THE SOLUTION
The key objectives of the public consultation were to share the most recent development plans with the community; highlighting changes influenced by prior community engagement and showcasing the benefits of the plans for jobs, the environment and quality of life for local residents and businesses.
We designed an immersive installation in two adjoining shops on the Pimlico Road offering a physical journey through the narrative of plans and community considerations utilising walls, windows and bespoke free-standing built surfaces.
THE RESULTS
With a focus on clarity and sensitivity to current residents, the immersive space offered visitors a sense of the future of the area, incorporating a real garden walkthrough
and reflecting community input alongside the most up-to date architects plans, models and CGI’s, all presented in a digestible and engaging format.
